July 24, 2011 Heritage Day in Madoc

Heritage Day at the Pioneer Village in Madoc.
The singing group "Stone Soup" was asked to sing for 2 hours for this event,
and Marcel is looking after sound.
The group sings once a month in a drop-in centre in Belleville called
"Belleville City Mission"
for which Marcel also helps out with sound.
Here they are busy setting up.

We took Kelly-Lynn & Erin along to listen to the music.
We didn't realize there were so many things to see and do at the village.
So, instead of sitting down to listen to the music, I followed the girls around for 2 hours.
We had lots of fun.

The kids wanted to see everything.  They were intrigued by this little school house.

A long process making wax candles.

No "grandma soup" in this pot.

These geese were following the farmer.  The dog made sure they stayed on course.
It was very entertaining.  The geese had a mind of their own.
I figured this dog would make a great babysitter when we had all 13 of our grandchildren down.
But the farmer wouldn't sell him.

Once the geese were back in their fenced in yard,
the dog tried to get them to go on to this teeter-tatter.
It took a while, but he did succeed.  The girls loved it.
Sheep shearing was next, but the sheep would not be coaxed in the shearing pen.
The girls were disappointed, they went especially back to see that.
The girls wanted to join the spelling bee.  They finally had summer holidays and still wanted to go to school. lol.

Erin joined because Kelly-Lynn did.
Compitition.

Kelly-Lynn won and showing off her prizes.
Erin did not do well...way to nervous.
Marcel in his sound booth.
Gorgeous setting

Robert, Peggy, Bruce & Lori.
Plowing demonstration.

A lot of games were planned for the kids.
Sack races. Kelly-Lynn on the left.

Erin in the race.
Next was the 3-legged race.

Didn't take Kelly-Lynn long to make a new friend visiting from Alberta.
They exchanged names and email addresses.

Water balloons.
Great shot of Erin with the balloon splatter.
After the games, all the kids received prizes,
and were told the home-made churned ice cream was ready.

Robert & Peggy
Out of the 2 hours of music, I did manage to sit for 20 minutes and listen.
They did an awesome job.
After we were all packed, we stopped at the splash-pad in Madoc
The girls played for about1/2 hour.
Just long enough for Erin to get some super sores from sliding down a long slide.
Can't slide on bare skin.  She went 3 times, and each time got more sores.
A great day.

  1. LOL of course you followed the kids around. Way too much for them to see and do so all you can do is follow. I may have told them to go have fun and sit down. Those 2 are so busy. Great pics mom.
